WIP Wednesday/Saturday? No, we are still very much alive!

Sorry for the lateness. My own fault. Got wrapped up in stuff and totally whiffed.

Don't give up if you keep falling down a path you don't want to be in. Persistence Helps, A lot.

Are you still, still alive? Any updates to share from the past month and a half?

Man time flies, sorry for the lack of updates recently, our regular PR guy benji has been absent as of late busy with college. Rest assured, progress is still being made even if we're not actively posting PR updates. I don't want to make any deadlines for when PR might pick up again, but we are still in fact... very much alive.

I am so absolutely thrilled that this project is still alive. I thought it had died years ago, then I see someone mention it on a steam forum and I find myself here! I still whip out my old hard drive and play a heavily modded bridge commander from time to time, can't wait to update to this!

You are hardly the first person to use such language against the Excalibur devs. Don't you think, if it were possible to complete the game sooner, it would've been done already? People have two choices: Be patient and wait, or Leave. No need to be a "dick" about it, just because you haven't gotten your hands on the game yet.

Hardly being a dick as I said in my previous post it's not the waiting that bothers most of us it's the false promises and the "You'll get this quick battle or beta or alpha soon" "bull" that annoys us. Games take time to make if you guys need another 10 years that's cool but just be honest and don't say you have something big till you actually do. The news feed is great keep us up to date with developments etc but not when they are being shrouded by news of an imminent release that isn't even coming.

that's kinda a catch-22 for us...  when we did post in the past anytime anything like "good news! X will be released soon, on this date" isn't meant to be deceiving...  sometimes last minute things happen in life, and you get a bit behind your own schedule...  life takes up alot of time, and sometimes you just dont have the few hours in the day to work on a project that we don't get paid to do...
however, if we dont post anything, people come here and get all mad about it taking forever and demanding why dont they have this or that?  it isnt very friendly to the team, it can have a big drag on morale overall...  it is self-defeating for anyone to show absolute frustration about it all to the team...
so we're damned if we do, damned if we dont...

we're not holding anything back, believe me when i say all of us would like to release something soon for everyone to enjoy (for free)...
we know it will be a major massive awesomeness for the community and things span from there; a new realm of modding, alot of attention, alot of people all working at mods on it and busy forums...  think about that the BC Community itself was so massive and tons of activity for years after BC was released...
also, the team would prefer not to put out anything that is sub par, buggy or not pristine... people would get mad at us for doing that too - and people would also get mad at us for just releasing whatever undone with problems making it look like we dont care... it has to be pretty perfect so no haters...

it is all about patience and support, alot of the team members have families and their own full-time jobs and such...
we do what we can, when we can...  it is not abandoned...we're all still committed :)
also there is always room on the team for anyone, who is legit and serious, if they can jump in with any types of skills that would be helpful...
anything you can help with, that we are in need of, please send a PM to any of the Project Leaders...  :smile

3 years ago you guys said quick battle was ready for release just a couple of minor kinks to work out, this was clearly rubbish I've played the leaked alpha and you guys have some stuff there but are obviously a long way off any kind of beta release and alot of us get that we can accept it and we like to hear news from you about we've just finished modelling the intrepid class etc but we don't want to hear fake news about a pending release.
This part I say as a suggestion now obviously I don't know the full state of where you guys are at with things but would you consider a progressive release? As in release what you have now stable or unstable and slowly update it with new content as it's made fixing bugs as you can, for one it would open up people's ability to suggest changes modifications etc and it would also bolster the community and I'm sure you guys have something decent that alone would bring recognition to the devs thus bolstering the dev morale on the project all you would need is one person willing to collate and compile all the necessary files and distribute them via torrent/file server.

First, I'd like to say that putting things in paragraphs, is a hell of a lot nicer than reading a "wall of text", especially when that wall is written by someone who came off kinda rude in his initial postings...

To be perfectly honest, I'm not certain why a quickbattle release wasn't made "3 years ago" (my memory's blanking out on me at this time), and I'm fairly certain the go-to comment has been that we won't any release dates, until it's you know... released. Yes, there was a leak a few years back (probably by a disgruntled former team member), but that leak was nowhere near "final" quality. Hell, i'd argue it wasn't even an alpha back then (more like pre-alpha). Keep in mind, about 2-3 years ago we made the switch from homegrown game-engine, to Unreal Engine 4, so a lot of the stuff we had, was forced to be rebuilt on the new engine. And with the constant updates to Unreal Engine from the Unreal Engine developers, we need to keep our stuff current, and compatible with the new engine updates as well. As you could possibly imagine, this tends to slow things down a bit as well.

Now in closing, the best suggestion at this time, to you or anyone else who might be lurking: Get involved! If you have a skill that might contribute to a faster development, get involved! Contact the devs, write an application on this forum, send a message to our Facebook page, or Direct Message our Twitter account. There's nothing worse than people who complain about "why isn't it out yet???", and have no interest in actually trying to contribute.

(I can't, and won't speak in regards to a possible release of the files as-is, since that would be a decision by one of the developers higher up in the food chain.)

Sorry about the wall of text thing, again if I came across rude I am sorry.

If you could pass that along to one of the higher devs for discussion at a suitable time that'd be great and is meant as a genuine suggestion for the benefit of both the game and community something that allow I'm disappointed it's not further on I get why and I still look forward to when you do get to release stage.

As regards applying I'm currently refreshing my programming knowledge as it's been a while after which I fully intend to offer my assistance with coding, I would offer to help make models but I'm saving for a new build so my potato laptop can't handle anything more than very basic models.

I honestly just want to see this community project do well and it's only going to keep doing that with complete clarity from the mods and any devs who make posts as I said previously news about knew models, letting us know your on track etc is great.

Related to the helping out any chance you guys could tease the UI I'm great with UI's and I was wondering if you guys had made much difference and what your plans were regarding it as I could easily create one if it helps.

did you seriously just say "fake news" about us?    :rolleyes

I honestly just want to see this community project do well
as do we all...  this is why the devs are gifting to everyone all the work they have and have yet to put into this massive project (for free)...

and it's only going to keep doing that with .....
it also helps the rest of us TREMENDOUSLY that people stay positive, friendly, respectful to the team and not have a negative complaining mode about them...  ;)
