It's about time we got something real besides that horrid D-A-C game.

Seeing how it's pre-alpha footage, they have til Summer 2012 to polish up those graphics, which already look pretty slick.

That and it's being made by Digital Extremes: The guys behind some of the UT games and most recently Dark Sector/The Darkness II. Their engine is something to take note on.

That aside, the gameplay is fuzzy at best, but there IS Spock and Kirk for a reason...The game is meant to be Co-op; AKA Someone plays as Kirk, and the other plays Spock.

It's also meant as a "in-between" plot that takes place after the 2009 film and before Star Trek "2".

The footage I've seen (a youtube vid by IGN) looked pretty blurry, and had pretty average sound quality, so I can't make much of a statement over the game. I will say that it looks a lot like Mass Effect, which is probably a good thing, but it'll need to be distinct if it's going to have any success, otherwise people will just go and replay Mass Effect 3 (which will be out by then and is almost guaranteed to be an awesome game). Having said all that, for pre-alpha footage it's surprisingly polished.

Also, BrioCyrain, the Romulan guy you refer to in you signature is Senator Vreenak, just thought you'd like to know.

That's because the IGN and GT footage are "streams", not direct-feed. If they ever released the trailer in it's actual quality it would be a lot more clear. Basically right now all the the HD versions are just upscaled versions of the SD stream. Thus why the clip shows a part of the Sony conference.

Just watch the trailer again. I can't believe I did not notice this but the JJprise shown in the trailer does really look over 800m long. It looks more along the size of the original.  Kirk and Spock (?) seem to pass underneath the saucer section quickly. If the ship shown is over 800m, they must be going roughly around 800-900kph. I highly doubt that a human being has the reaction time to fly (is that the right word?) in a shuttle pod airlock without computer assistance. Unless those have been blown up to size as well.
IMO it's better to just pretend that nobody ever said the Enterprise was 800m.  That figure makes no sense, so I don't know why we follow it.

It's definitely that shape and design type. Cardassians VS the Enterprise would be strange.

What bugs me when they show it at a specific conference like this is that Sony makes it appear that it's only for PS3, even though before the conference it was already announced there was 360 and PC versions. Marketing can be so cheap sometimes.

There's loads of reasons for that, might have been that that was the only open slot for their presentation, or perhaps Sony paid them to show during their press conference, god knows Sony needs the good press (whether they deserve it is up for debate), in which case that money could be used to make the game better, so it's not all bad. As long as it doesn't go console exclusive then it's all good.

I might  be a bit biased, but the only real place for a shooter is the PC IMO.

There's no denying that PC is the superior platform, but console FPS aren't too bad, if designed well.

http://www.gamerlive.tv/article/e3-2011-first-look-paramount%E2%80%99s-amazing-new-star-trek-game

Quote
In development for more than a year and a half, Star Trek was playable at Paramount’s E3 booth – at least for two players from the Digital Extremes team. The developer is working in close collaboration with the 2009 Star Trek filmmaking team - Bad Robot, writing team Alex Kurtzman and Bob Orci (K/O Paper Products) and Damon Lindelof. Star Trek features an original story by BAFTA award winner and God of War writer, Marianne Krawczyk, in collaboration with the writer/producers of the 2009 Star Trek films, Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman. DNA of the game is co-op, every design decision made during the development was made with co-op in mind.

The demo was shown with two HD screens to highlight the depth of asymmetrical co-op gameplay. Digital Extremes said the new game will also support Sony’s new PlayStation 3D TV, which will allow two players to view the game on one screen without splitting the screen in half. The demo began with Kirk and Spock (featuring the likeness of the film actors with their voice acting to be added later) making a dramatic shuttle jump to re-board the Enterprise that is under attack. Navigating deadly mines, players control the breakneck jump, complete with a near-crash landing by Kirk (while Spock managed a near-perfect landing).

Once aboard, Kirk and Spock make their way through the Enterprise using their tricorders to unlock doors and scan fallen red shirts to try and figure out what’s captured the Enterprise and what caused it to go into Command Lockout. After receiving a distress call from a crew member, they head to the nearest turbo lift to make their way to the Shuttle Bay.

As they find the source of the transmission, they discover it’s a trap, and are ambushed by a group of enemies, triggering a playable cut scene. Kirk and Spock see the event from two different points of views through cinematic camera cuts, and each dives for cover in a scripted event where both players keep full control of their weapons.

Eventually Kirk is knocked down and paralyzed by an enemy nerve toxin and Spock needs to get him up to Med Bay.  As Kirk drags himself behind some crates for cover, more enemies beam into the shuttle bay deck, pinning them down. Using one hand Kirk must provide cover fire for two of them as Spock cannot use his weapon while dragging Kirk.

In Med Bay, Spock lays Kirk on a gurney and begins an interactive sequence using the medical laser to kill the alien parasites invading Kirk’s body.  As this happens Kirk provides cover fire for Spock. The difficulty of this sequence is based on how may red shirts you scanned and data you collected; it becomes easier the more data you collect.  After the parasites are neutralized, a firefight breaks out and Kirk grabs a Federation rifle. While pinned down, Kirk uses his tricorder to deploy a Federation shield, giving him extra cover and mobility. He also uses his tricorder to overload a panel, killing a nearby enemy with the explosion. Using the Federation rifle’s secondary fire mode—a shield—Kirk instructs Spock to fire into the shield, which stores the energy as a charge. As more enemies rush in, Kirk uses the giant blast as a charged attack. Just when they thought they were safe, a more powerful enemy teleports in, and after a brief firefight, Kirk is incapacitated by the enemies powerful attacks.

Awesome shots! Spank my ass and call me Deborah!

This actually looks like an A-grade game, getting blockbuster polish... I'll excuse the eyelashes rendering through the other side of the faces in the shuttlebay shot as a pre-beta bug.

The filenames of those pics are illuminating... "Shuttle added" "Poses Altered", hehe.

Great find, thanks!

EDIT:
One more shot from that site...

A different version of the Vulcan colony shot:

And a piece of nifty concept art

Looks like it'll be a decent action game. If they can borrow some of the non-action parts of Mass Effect, and splice in some reasonable Starship flight-simming, I'll be very happy.

Digital Extremes must have done some database mixing while I was on break...seems all the screens got broken.

Here they are, some of them still just some of the older shots re-arranged.
