It's history is evolving as I redesign the hull. The pointy one might eventually have a specialized bow emitter that the top and bottom phaser arrays converge to, and several torpedo turrets in two styles. One has three tubes which fire a special three stage torpedo design capable of going to warp from an impulse launch. Each of those tubes can also fire bursts of three conventional torpedoes each. The latter turret is a single tube in the Galaxy style of launcher, but expanded to fire ten or twenty torpedoes. Then there are the fixed tubes and those short secondary arrays. I've decided they're subspace compressors, as I currently imagine them they might be shrink rays.

But, just think of them as beam arrays which far higher energy density, thus their shortness. Instead of RCS thrusters, I'm thinking of giving it impulse engines in every direction.
As for the history of why it was built. Way, way back I originally drew the profile image for a fan fiction about a multi-universal transtime Federation fighting a similarly multidimensional Borg. The ship was pretty much that Trekverse's Voyager, captained by Janeway, and it was probably nine kilometers long, equipped with temporal flak, planet popping phaser analogs, quantum slipstream, and the ability to turn on a dime.

The STO competition came around, so I cleaned up the profile, and created a top and front view.

No seemed to really appreciate the top view. People seemed to like the nacelles. I love them in their original dark gray.

Anyway, thanks to the STO competition, it gave me the idea that the Serendipity is a post Dominion War ship built for unforeseeable future conflicts. In my version of things, while the Federation does shrink the fleet post-war, it doesn't completely revert to a fleet of exploration with a dying defense force. Instead, they do go back to exploring, but they gradually make the defense fleets as purpose built and up to date as possible. The exploration and science ships are all also better armed.
The Serendipity is the first pure combat design capable of acting as a fleet's centerpiece. It's the Federation's first true battleship. The hope is for the Serendipity to face the threats now believed to be inevitably encountered, no matter what actions are taken.
There are two generations of the ship, a pure warp version (the STO version) and a quantum slipstream version (the dagger bow). Also, while both are huge, I think it may still be below the D'Deridex's volume.
