MR_7 I like that tricorder.
We could deffo add that in as a map object or a hidden easter egg vintage tricorder for the players to find :P
If you're doing an Easter Egg, then I would want a TOS triocrder.:)

Could do, certainly an interesting effect, im not sure what it would add to the game though, a future mod possibility?
It depends. For one, the moving/depth text would be a simple way to determine if a chip has any data, so it cannot be confused for empty chips which would have dead text maybe saying how many kiloquads are available and how many yota operations per second can be executed. It could be a simple string: 256 5640. If you can make the text modifiable in game, then there will be almost no chance of confusion over what chip has what data, and scrolling would be used to fit a larger label.

Yep, ill be doing a smaller ones (like a memory stick) for the tricorders/ padds etc, and ill be doing gel packs :)
probably wont do iso-rods tho, really dont need em.

Bigger chips too, such as what might be used in the computer cores? What ideas do you have for the gel packs?
I'm on a pig.

Now, it's diamonds.

Its good to see OLED finally being proposed for useful applications.

Which reminded me of something I came across about 6 months ago (can't remember if I shared it with the forum...so what the hell). Bear in mind that this is in initial prototype stages, but this stuff exists right now...:

Contact Lens Display System

I find that rather creepy, and cool. you don't know what some people could be using it for. But at the same time the idea of zooming in on something is very cool.

@MR_7
Thats much better, can see the nokia design in it.
see the attached picture btw, your design and TMP were destined to be together :P We need that as a collectable item.

Do you want to send you the model to have a look at. :) i don't mind either way its just sitting here on my D: drive

Anyway new tricorder design, (sorry if i'm kinda taking over the thread I just find it rather fun to make small objects)
Mixed my previos idea with the nemesis tricoder to make this.
Don't know which is better.

Angled one

It's cool, but I think the pads on the side should change shape to accomadate a fully rectagular screen, rather than the screen bend inwards. A funny shaped screen means both that there is less space to show stuff and the OS must be programmed in an awkward way, unless it just shows nothing in those areas and treats it as a rectangle. Either way, rectangular screen = most space efficient, and seeing as Starfleet is a military organization, efficiency is more important than appearence. :)

Very constructive of you.

Yes please, i actually quite like it :)

Anyway new tricorder design, Mixed my previos idea with the nemesis tricoder to make this.
I agree with sman, try making the screen rectangular, and stick a hinge where that angled bit is, and having a recess for it to fold into (so instead of having a flip down bit covering the whole screen like previous tricorders, have it only cover the bottom).

(sorry if i'm kinda taking over the thread I just find it rather fun to make small objects)
thats the idea so no worries :)

ok, here we go.

Numbers 1 and 2 use the translucent idea, and the two sections slide together to hide the screen.
Numbers 3 & 4 are the same one (open and closed) of matts design (still needs work)
Number 5 is the original idea
Number 6 was the alternative idea

Which one will it be?

I think translucent is too futuristic for the set date of Excalibur. I have to go for 3/4 and ( i like the idea of the pull out bit on 6 but nothing bits the good flip out screen :) )

I agree with 3/4, keeps the feel of the TNG tricorder but more advanced, like a natural evolution of the design.

I really don't see what's wrong with the Nemesis design (apart from copy rights). I don't think Starfleet would have changed the design all that much in what, twenty years, especially considering that the previous design, introduced c. 2360 was not changed drastically until essentially 2380.

Haha nice, the tricorder on the first page looks like the HTC EVO. I like it!, I hope it stays like that.

Allright... I'm a little lazy today and didn't feel like scrolling through 7 pages to see if there were at least one post about what I am going to say now... :P

Why don't you add, if not all, but some of the tricorders, and the player can choose for him/herself in-game? And change during gameplay? Would that be possible?

Just a suggestion... *shrug*
