I thought I read somewhere that they were talking about the slight possibility that they could tie each room in with the ship HP, that way the Interiors would damage based on the severity detected in the HP. I think with the physics engine that they are coming up with, exploding consoles etc could be a reality. I'd love to see a whole "Year of Hell" or "Nemesis" scenario, i.e. forcefields peering out into space with debris, overloaded conduits etc.
I prodded on that quite a bit. Their goal does seem to be that. One example would be if an enemy put a hole straight through your hull, then you walk to the related area inside the ship, you would be able to see all the decks and rooms that have been cut by that beam, and the holes at either end, and you could jump into the opening and fall out the ship through either hole. I think the intention is to make the random rooms just that, and only for hard pointed rooms to be fixed, that way every wouldn't have to be made by hand nor manually arranged. That all goes with the smaller level stuff like destructuable objects, so everything could have hit points and armor ratings if that is included. With a strong enough weapon and flexible enough destructibility, you could cut your way out of a ship from the inside.
