Software/Hardware RequirementsQ. What Operating System will Excalibur run on?
A. So far, we are only building for Microsoft Windows (XP/Vista/7). (Emulators may work but there are no gaurantees)
Q. Do I need an existing game to use Excalibur?
A. No, Excalibur is a completely self-contained game using the NanoFX Evolved game engine. It is not a mod.
Q. What Processor and Memory will I need to play Excalibur?
A. This has yet to be determined; we will have a better idea of these requirements closer to release time.
You should at have
at least the minimum hardware requirements for your OS as a starting point.
Q. What Video Card (Including versions of Direct X, Shader Model etc) will I need to play Excalibur?
A. This has yet to be determined; we will have a better idea of these requirements closer to release time.
Bleeding edge hardware is not an anticipated requirement, although the game will take advantage of Graphics hardware as much as possible.
Q. What tools will I need to mod Excalibur?
A. Specifics are unknown at this time; however the Engine uses the .Net framework.
We also intend to produce all the relevant toolsets and editors for general community modding such as Model Property Editors, Mission Editors etc.
Playability/Functionality Related Q. Will I be able to walk around the ship/planet/space station freely whenever I want?
A. Very likely; the game is anticipated to contain some first person elements aboard ship and on away missions.
Q. What methods of space travel will be used in the game?
A. Besides Warp and Transwarp, nothing is confirmed.
Q. Will Excalibur be moddable?
A. The game is being designed with modding in mind and the tools will be provided to help.
Besides the single player campaign, you will be able to add your own mods, after all we can't do everything!
Q. Will there be a skirmish mode?
A. One is planned
Q. Will there be Multiplayer Support?
A. This is being considered, but isn't a priority.
Q. Will you just be including canon items?
A. As much as possible yes, where there are obvious gaps or a plot requirement we may use non-canon elements, but we will try and make them feel canon.
Q. What technologies will be included?
A. This very much depends on the plot, however all basic items will be included. Modders can add the rest!
Q. What spatial encounters can we expect?
A. Primarily these will be plot dependant. Planets for example will have gravity wells, as will black holes, and stars etc.
Q. Can we land on planets?
A. This is planned; however the details are still being worked out.
General Q. What era is Excalibur set in?
A. Excalibur is set Post-Nemesis in the 'prime' timeline. (it doesn't factor STXI in as such)
Q. What's the release date?
A. Unknown as yet. So please don’t ask.
Q. Are you recruiting for any modders, beta tester's etc?
A. Please see the Recruitment forum for currently available positions, these will be updated as development progresses.
However if you see nothing available, please feel free to contribute your ideas in the
Suggestions forum
